Veterans Group Ministry
Reach out and make a difference...
St. Jude's Veterans Group prepares and hosts a special lunch for homeless Veterans at HomeFirst south of downtown San Jose, on the first Thursday of every month. We convey respect and support and keep in touch with their needs.
Our visits are part of HomeFirst's effort to help these Vets overcome issues that led to their homelessness. Through donations and community support we are able to provide items to help as we can, including back packs, coats in winter, and care packages of underwear, socks and grooming aids.
Veterans account for nearly 10 percent of the homeless population of 7,000+ in Santa Clara County. The HomeFirst facility is the largest shelter and service center for homeless adults in the county and receives Veterans Administration funding to maintain a special shelter area for Vets.
If you are interested in joining our group, or have an idea for supporting our Vets, please contact Bob Hebson at (408) 255-3753 or by email. We are interested in helping Veterans and deployed service personel and Veterans in whatever way we can.
St. Jude's Veterans effort grew from its work with Adopt-a-Chaplain. For three years the parish provided prayer and spiritual support for deployed Chaplains and tangible support to help them in the work they do to support service personnel deployed in the most difficult of circumstances.
Whoever you are, wherever you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome here.
