Demographics of Our Congregation

St. Jude’s is a “transitional size church” with about 370 active members (200 family units) and an average Sunday attendance of 180. On Sunday mornings, about 50 people worship at the 8:00 service and about 130 people worship at the 10:30 service.  The majority of the members of this community are middle class, well educated, and hard working.  A large percentage of folks work in the high-tech, information, and engineering fields.

While we are predominantly of European heritage, we have an increasing population of families of mixed marriages which include Chinese, Sri-Lankan, Indian, Hispanic, Afro-American, and Nigerian.  79% of our parishioners are married, 18% are single/widowed/divorced, and 3% are gay/lesbian.   Some people come to church without their spouses while a few have spouses of different faiths.  We have approximately 85 children under the age of 18.

Theologically, we tend to be more liberal than conservative, more action oriented than contemplative, with a commitment to social justice and outreach.  Prayer, contemplation, and spiritual health are an integral part of the preaching and teaching.  About 33% of us are life-long Episcopalians, 33% are previously Roman Catholic, and 33% are from other denominations.

We are not afraid to struggle with the difficult questions and are comfortable with ambiguity.  Our posture is:  “Whoever you are, wherever you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome here.”
