“Prayer is responding to God, by thought and by deeds, with or without words.” [BCP 856] Prayer is essentially practical. It should make us more human, not less. It gives us resources to live our lives more fully. During this Lenten Program, we will examine various methods of prayer that can lead us and the world into health and wholeness.
February 27th 7:15-8:30pm (Soup supper at 6:30 - See Details Below)
Session 1: Source of Life and Light: Prayer as relationship and listening. “Prayer is about exploring a relationship with God, not about perfecting an esoteric technique.” In this session we will examine the promises (as well as the myths) of prayer, focusing on different prayer disciplines that will open our hearts and minds to the presence of God.
Pastor Dawn will cover a similar topic specifically for teens in the
Fireside room at 7:15.
March 5th 7:15-8:30pm (Soup supper at 6:30 - See Details Below)
Session 2: Source of Joy, Love, and Wholeness: Prayer as honesty and compassion for others. “There is no real distinction, then between prayer and action. Prayer is action because God’s energy is released into a situation. Prayer leads to action because we cannot with integrity pray for something which we are not also prepared to do something about.” In this session we will examine ACTS (prayers of adoration, contrition, thanksgiving, supplication). It will conclude with prayers of supplication for the 8 Millennium Development Goals. Pastor Dawn will cover a similar topic specifically for teens in the Fireside room at 7:15
March 12th 7:15-8:30pm (Soup supper at 6:30 - See Details Below)
Session 3: Source of Formation/Transformation: Worshipping God through common prayer “To worship, is to put God at the center of our lives. The goal of worship is not actually to enjoy ourselves or enjoy the service. The goal is to enjoy God through prayer.” In this session, we will explore how common prayer actually forms us into the people God wills us to be. It will end with a service of Compline in the church.
Pastor Dawn will cover a similar topic specifically for teens in the
Fireside room at 7:15
Please note on March 2nd, at the Adult Forum (9:15am), Pastor Dawn will give an overview of the Lord’s Prayer.
