Joanna Shreve (Diocesan Consultant)
I have been a member of St. Timothy's, Mountain View for 31 years. In 2006, I was asked to serve on the Bishop's Search Committee and was thereafter elected to be one of the two co-chairs. When Bishop Mary arrived in our diocese in September 2007, she realized that she would need some help with assisting congregations in their search processes for new clergy as the turnover in our diocese was quite high. The diocese sent several of us for further training with Rob Voyle of the Clergy Leadership Institute. (Rob had coached our diocese throughout its interim period between bishops and was also the Search Committee's coach.)
I really enjoy my work as a Search Committee consultant as I feel it uses at least two of my strongest spiritual gifts -- administration and encouragement. I feel particularly excited about serving at St. Jude's, as I have always admired this congregation's desire to be a "spiritual oasis," something that I have always experienced when walking on this campus. Their commitment to outreach and social justice issues is also very close to my heart.
I also serve the diocese as its treasurer and am the vice chair of the Commission on Ministry, which supports people through their process to ordination. I feel so blessed to be involved in the work that I do at this stage in my life. Many of the skills I developed as a School Improvement Program Coordinator for 10 years in the Cupertino Union School District and my work in school reform at Homestead High School for 8 years are serving me well in my ministry today.
