Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor for the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology
The vital connection between psychological and spiritual development has frequently been obscured by turf battles between psychologists and priests. In attempting to make sense of human experience, clerics have often promoted a point of view that suggests that human well being is achieved first and foremost as a function of a persons relationship with God. Psychologists, on the other hand, have focused primarily on human relationships as the hallmark of well being. When these positions become polarized they tend to veil the more complex and subtle fabric of human experience which may be more like an unending dialectical process in which the psychological and spiritual plains of experience give shape and substance to each other.
Transpersonal psychology represents a point of view which attempts to understand and bring into sharp focus the movement of this dialectic and further to investigate the various ways in which this dialectic serves persons in their efforts to make meaning out of experience.
Bob Walters is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Menlo Park since 1990, and serving as clinical supervisor for the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto and for Christian Counseling Centers in Fremont since 1996. Mr. Walters has a special interest in the relationship between contemplative prayer and Vipassana meditation.

Each Wednesday, a group of people from St. Jude’s, gathers together to pray. On the first Wednesday of the month, a healing liturgy is offered while Holy Eucharist is offered on the remaining Wednesdays. The service is 30 minutes long. Currently, a bible study class follows the noon service in the Fireside Room. It focuses on the Gospel of Luke. The class starts at 12:45pm. We study one chapter per week. Read the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 11.
